A SMOOTH TRANSITION—
NAD APPOINTS THREE BAHAMIAN MANAGERS TO
HEAD MOVE INTO NEW TERMINAL
Â
Nassau, Bahamas May 10, 2010—With less than a year until the new U.S. Departures terminal opens, the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) has appointed three Bahamian managers in key positions to head the transition into the new terminal.
Â
Benjamin Arthur, Manager, Operational Readiness and Transition, Peter Tynes, Manager, Tenant Construction Readiness and Transition, and Cleavon Nixon, Manager, Maintenance Readiness and Transition were selected from a talented pool of 160 employees at the airport management company.
Â
For Stewart Steeves, NAD’s Vice President of Airport Development, the transition team is critical to having the airport fully operational on opening day. “We want a seamless move from one terminal to the next. On day one, all of the airport’s major systems—the $10 million baggage system, new apron drive bridges and all control access points—will be put to the test so it is important to have a competent team in place when the terminal opens next Spring.”
Â
Already, the managers are working with airport stakeholders including tenants, Bahamas Customs and Immigration, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, contractors, airlines and other relevant agencies to create a working plan for the transition.
Â
“Our team is currently developing a master milestone tracking sheet and laying out the plan to each stakeholder,” said Steeves. “Another major aspect of the transition will be extensive training on new airport systems like a state-of-the–art baggage system. During the final months, the focus will shift to orientation and testing of everything from the apron drive bridges to the bathroom faucets prior to opening.”
Â
Days before the scheduled opening, NAD will use hundreds of volunteers in mock travel exercises to test the check-in and baggage collection process. To date, the airport management company has spent $80 million on Stage one construction since breaking ground on the $409.5 million project in July 2009.  Work continues on the project with general contractor Ledcor Construction enclosing the structure and preparing to install hurricane-tested curtain walls to the building’s exterior surface.
