LOCAL BUSINESS COMMUNITY SHOWS
STRONG INTEREST IN LPIA

Nassau, June 18, 2009— The countdown is on. In less than 22 months, the new $265 million U.S. Departures terminal building will open at the Lynden Pindling International Airport. And while the LPIA Expansion Project team is busy finalizing plans for the physical structure, the Nassau Airport Development Company’s commercial division is already preparing the business community for concession opportunities in the new facility.
Â
More than 150 businesspersons and entrepreneurs attended an information session at the Wyndham Nassau Resort. NAD’s Vice President of Commercial Development, John Spinks showed the packed crowd the retail and food & beverage spaces available come March 2011 and explained the Request for Proposal, the leasing process and the new tenant design manual.
Â
“There will be approximately 15,000 sq. ft. of retail space in the new US terminal including a sit down restaurant and bar, three newsstands, four Bahamian specialty retail stores, two retail kiosks and two carts similar to what we have introduced in the current US terminal building,” Spinks explained. Â
Â
Craig Richmond, President and CEO at NAD, was impressed by the turnout at the information session.  “Clearly, Bahamians are interested in the business opportunities available at the airport,” Richmond said. “In the short time since we have implemented our retail program, new business ownership and employment opportunities have increased significantly at LPIA.”
Â
Already, more than 100 jobs have been created through new retail outlets at the airport. Starting next month, the first Request For Proposal for concession space in the new terminal building will be issued.
