To meet the needs of the local community and continue to grow The Bahamas as a leading destination for tourism, NAD is overseeing a $409.5 million airport redevelopment project.The first stage, a 247,000 square foot U.S. Terminal and Pier and 1,000,000 square feet of aircraft operating surface – opened on time, and on budget in March 2011.The new terminal includes a state-of-the-art baggage system, eco-friendly building design, more than 21 retail and food outlets and features local art, materials and businesses.

Stage two, a 226,000 sq. ft. International Arrivals terminal opened in October 2012. It houses Bahamas Immigration and Bahamas Customs, an advanced baggage belt system, four restaurants, bars, lunges and will have six hotel reception lobbies. 

The four-year $409.5 million airport redevelopment project is more than three-quarters complete. Once all three stages are complete in 2013, the new airport complex will be 571,000 sq. ft., with the capacity to handle 5 million passengers.
